West Chester, Pa. artist Susan Curtin
studied at Moore College of Art, the University of the Arts, Vermont Studio Center and received a Certificate in Painting
at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Susan is a grant recipient of the Philadelphia Foundation for her work in
mural painting. An avid artist, Susan exhibits her paintings in throughout the Philadelphia region. Her work is in several
private and corporate collections. Though
Susan’s styles express several diverse paths, the one unifying constant is her love of nature. Pointillism in Susan’s
hand has provided a perfect opportunity to create landscapes that combine a wonderful sense of depth and nuance. Her pastels
display an artful weaving of color to create light and form. Susan also has a fascinating series created from layer upon layer
of tiny points of hand-ground color which captures and displays a splendid understanding of light. Her animal studies of chickens,
ducks, sheep, horses and zoo animals all find a place in her work, some in their natural settings and some rendered in intimate
detail against simple shaded backgrounds. Another theme of Susan’s consists of vibrant floral studies against indigo
backgrounds. Susan’s work is included in Speaking for Themselves: The Artist of Southeastern PA, by
Daphne Landis and One Hundred Artists of the Brandywine
Valley by Catherine Quillman |
